MY PERFECT FORTUNE

A few nights ago, Rick and I were out to dinner, and while waiting for our meal we grabbed a hand full of fortune cookies.  Like always, there were a few fortunes that fit our lives at the moment, so I slipped them into my pocket.  On our quiet ride home from dinner, both Rick and I lost in our own thoughts, I started wondering...if I could have a perfect fortune, one that I knew would come true, what would it be?  My mind wandered to the night before.  Somehow on a Friday night, we were able to get all 3 of our kids together to go out to dinner. As we sat in that little Thai restaurant, laughing, and talking, and joking around, I realized that for just a moment my life was perfect.  I don't know how many times our family has gone out to dinner, hundreds maybe, but I took those moments for granted.  My kids are growing up and leaving home, and those precious precious moments, when it's just the 5 of us, don't happen nearly enough.  So my perfect fortune?  The promise of many more nights just like that one.

but the greatest fortune
is what lies in our hearts."

ROLLER DERBY

Rick and I were looking for something fun and a little different to do last weekend, and we found out about a local roller derby match.  Neither of us have ever been to a roller derby, nor did we know anything about it, so we decided it was time to experience it.

IT WAS AWESOME!!!

So because I love lists, and now love roller derbies, I thought I would let you know the reasons roller derbies are so amazing...

The announcer's names are DJ Dick and Platypus
The refs names are Phillip McCrevisse, Collin DeShotz, Quitchabitchen and Rubber Raw
There are at least 10 lesbians to every one straight person
The National Anthem is accompanied by an accordion
The best player is named Phister
If you are as lucky as we were, during half time, the person that comes out to pick the raffle tickets will have his gut hanging out the bottom of his shirt
The  mascott was named Sassy Sasquatch
I realized that lesbians like Disneyland because most of them were wearing Disneyland sweatshirts
You get to see girls basically beat each other up
At the end, everyone stands in a circle and high fives all of the skaters
You get invited to an official after party at Willie's Lounge

Go to a roller derby - you won't regret it.
